When the current BFT contract went into effect on July 1, 2015, a new teacher insurance package also began. Increased medical and pharmacy co-pays started,  and the out-of-pocket (OOP) maximum was also changed.

Our benefits package can only be understood by using all three of the documents below. Members are urged to familiarize themselves with these documents and refer to them when speaking with Cigna representatives should they need to resolve billing problems.

Here is how they relate:

First is the primary document, containing the majority of the information on the entire benefits package. However, this document, while still in use, predates the start of the changes made after the July 1, 2015-June 30, 2018 contract began. Hence, information related to co-pays and OOP is outdated and is superseded by Riders A and B.

Cigna Insurance

Rider A updates the co-pays, but inaccurately states the OOP maximum.

Cigna Insurance Rider A

Rider B correctly states the OOP maximum as $1000 (single)/$2000 (couple)/$3000(family).

Cigna Insurance Rider B

If members encounter a problem and are speaking with a Cigna rep, always inform the rep that you have a non-standard plan, and that there are two Riders that detail co-pays and OOP.
