1) This week the Bristol Board of Education elected Larry Amara as the new chair. Genard Doland was elected Vice-Chair, and Karen Bourassa as secretary. City councilor Henri Martin will serve as BOE liaison. All appointments last two years. Read details here
2) The State Department of Education issued its “scorecard” for local school districts this week, know as the School and District Performance Report. Bristol scored 74 on the performance index, below the state goal of 88. The Hartford Courant explains the rating system in this article.
3) In a Bristol Press article covering the recent BOE meeting, Superintendent Ellen Solek unveiled the plan to implement full day kindergarten over the next two school years.
