Today was the BFT’s annual budget meeting. For those unable to attend, here are some facts about our finances.
The BFT maintains a tight budget, with almost 74% of our annual budget going directly to our parent organizations; The AFT (National), AFT CT, and AFL-CIO. When possible, we try to absorb cost increases rather than raise dues for members.
We are audited annually by an independent who specialize in labor unions. In the past fiscal year, we began using a computer program that tracks all incoming and outgoing expenses. Several recommendations from our auditors were implemented and for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2012 we have an audited surplus of $3,791!
